Summer
HERBS – keep picking the flowers off parsley and basil to prevent them from bolting to seed.
FRUIT & VEGETABLES – plant tomatoes, zucchini and capsicum by the end of January. Spray apples and pears against codling moth.
FLOWERS – prune spring-flowering shrubs. Plant gardenias and geraniums. Trim spent roses with long stems. Deadhead flowering annuals to keep them flowering.
Autumn
HERBS – plant chives, coriander, marjoram, oregano, mustard & parsley.
FRUIT & VEGETABLE – plant citrus, avocado & olive trees. Sow broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower, lettuce, silverbeet, celery, peas, broad beans & English spinach.
FLOWERS – plant ageratum, alyssum, cineraria, cyclamen, forget-me-not, French marigold, Iceland poppy, lobelia, lupin, pansy, phlox, primula, stock and wallflower.
Winter
HERBS – cress and parsley.
FRUIT & VEGETABLE – plant artichoke, asparagus, beets, broad bean, Brussels sprouts, cabbage, carrot, cauliflower, celery, English spinach, kale, lettuce, onion, pea and radish.
FLOWERS – plant ageratum, alyssum, cineraria, cleome, cyclamen, forget-me-not, Iceland poppy, lobelia, lupin, marigold, pansy, petunia, phlox, primula, stock, verbena, wallflower, euryopsis, snow drops, winter honeysuckle, sweet pea, perennial petunia, osteospermum, Cineraria 'Silver Dust' and zinnia.
Spring
HERBS – sow basil, chives, coriander, dill, mint, oregano, parsley, sage and thyme.
FRUIT & VEGETABLES – sow broccoli, carrot, celery, cucumber, lettuce, silverbeet, snow pea, spinach, strawberry, sweet corn, zucchini and tomato.
FLOWERS – sow alyssum, antirrhinum, aster, begonia, carnation, cornflower, cosmos, dahlia, daisies, dianthus, foxglove, gazania, impatiens, marigold, petunia, salvia and zinnia.
